What had previously been more of a human sanctuary is a natural refuge,” related Sayers of the swamp, which officially became the Great Gloomy Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in the 1970s. Since 2001, Sayers has researched and exploring the presence of maroons (African-Americans who permanently escaped enslavement) and other communities in the swamp's roughly 200 square miles of underdeveloped, densely wooded wetlands in southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina. To conduct his archaeology research in the swamp, Sayers had to secure a Fed. permit from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the government agency that owns the swamp.

. Apart from maroons, Sayers says the swamp was also home to Native US citizens (Indigenous Americans), enslaved canal laborers (African-Americans who worked for the canal companies-some worked to buy or earn their liberty), free African-Americans, and outcast Continentals, for example bad guys. Exposing a Secret Human World . Sayers' project, called the Great Gloomy Swamp Landscape Study, latterly secured a $200,000 We the people Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities. It all began when Sayers decided to research the history of the Great Gloomy Swamp from the 1600s through 1860 for his doctoral dissertation.

From the beginning, Sayers discovered that he had his work cut out for him-practically no field research had been done in the Great Dismal Swamp Sanctuary. Significant documents only offered hints alluding to the communities. . “Say I was researching the history of a 1840s Virginia farmhouse,” Sayers posed. “Based primarily on historic paperwork and prior field research of other, similar properties, I would probably be able to tell you where the house was on the land (if no longer standing), where the outhouse, barn, and potentially enslaved people's quarters would be re the house without even putting a spade in the ground.” . To form his models, Sayers examined significant paperwork and research about other, similar swamp communities in the Western Hemisphere, including those in Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana.

“In other areas, local militias were frequently employed to capture maroons and destroy their settlements,” Sayers said. “When they found these communities, they might document the locale of settlements, the sizes, shapes, and number of homes and other structures before destroying them.” . The other swamps were nowhere near as dense or expansive as the Great Gloomy Swamp, which is likely why so little documentation on the Dismal Swamp communities existed. Nobody who'd have documented the Dismal Swamp communities had found them. It was actually a great hiding place.

. The Significance of Secrecy, Security . For the past three summers, Sayers has taken a grouping of American College scholars to sites in the swamp for a field college through which they gain valuable experience in the craft of archaeology, including photography, mapping, soil sampling, and excavation. This summer's field college starts May seventeen and ends July 2. The communities mostly formed in 3 areas : the swamp's outskirts, the swamp's isolated interior (away from the canals), or along the canals.

Each type of community existed for many different reasons. . People in the inside communities wished to be as isolated as practical and would have relied more on items they manufactured by hand. Canal laborers, who lived in the communities along the canals, would have used more industrially produced items as they constantly interacted with the exterior world. Interior communities also would have had more interest in monitoring who joined or left their ranks.

“Leaders were very wary about who came in and who left,” Sayers claimed. “Their central concern was protecting the community's privacy and security.” . “Many of these started as communities of Native North Americans around the 1600s,” Sayers said. “When maroons began to take sanctuary in the swamp around the1700s, they started joining existing communities and also likely formed their own.” . According to Sayers, the artifacts suggest that the swamp communities began to diminsh around the 1860s close to the Civil War. “There were likely some insignificant skirmishes in the swamp as well as a steady but robust exodus of maroons over the course of three to 4 years to join the fight-obviously for the North,” Sayers recounted about the war's impact. Challenges Worth the Effort . Swamp life wasn't easy for the folks that sought refuge there and isn't easy for Sayers and his team.

The swamp is called “dismal” for a reason-in the summer, the heat and humidity are intolerable. Stinging, biting insects, snakes, and bears are among the wildlife. Then there are the brambles with “thorns the size of shark's teeth” cited by Sayers as the reason he wears a full canvas suit in the field each day. “As details unfold, we are increasingly in a position to show how people have the capability, as individuals and communities, to grab control of their lives, even under oppressive conditions.” . You can use the law of attraction as a way of improving your life. By making this choice you will see benefits occur quickly. This may be applied to the money you have, issues with family or even emotional and potentially romantic relationships. This is the extent to the influence that may be felt on your every day life.

To use the law of attraction in the right manner, first embrace positive thinking. We live in a world that can have a tendency to focus on the negatives and make us worry all the time and this makes it difficult to be positive. Your energies must be properly focused upon getting all you want. When the right steps are then taken the universe rewards you in a host of ways.

This idea has been in existence for a very long time. What we really need to do is make sure our energies are focused on what matters most. Those with an abundance of wisdom and experience have long since chosen to do this and their success is evidence it works. If we follow their path we too can improve our life experience.

By choosing to send positivity into the universe you make the law work for you. If you require something to happen with intensity then you’ll need to be able to visualize and experience it with all your heart. You can apply this to several areas in life and can have benefits emotionally and financially.

Affirm what you want by using it to make improvements can be effective in numerous ways. Write down some statements in a journal or on a piece of paper. You can also repeat them aloud in front of your mirror. This ensures the idea becomes concrete. The more you go over it the greater the likelihood of having good fortune. This will draw it or attract it to you.

To make sure that this has the desired effect, think about analysing what your intentions are. You can’t simply ask for success and money. Focus on what your goals really are to make sure this approach is fruitful and this may prove valuable over the long term.

It is not really just a matter of putting out wishful thinking and expecting results but more about getting what you have put out. This can work properly in various ways and can also be witnessed to effect the lives of others too. This applies to you and how you live. You need to make the right moves and have good intentions for this to prove fruitful.

Ensure that you put your heart and soul into achieving this. You can gain nothing of value with shallow and half hearted intentions in any part of your life and this applies to this too. By making sure you are taking the appropriate steps and being decisive then there’s more of a chance you’ll receive benefits.

Apprentice: Me? I see my reflection in the pond.

Mad Monk: Good. Now from my point of view I can see two of you, correct?

Apprentice: Yeah I guess. You can see my physical body and my reflection in the pond. So that’s two, right?

Mad Monk: Yes, now I ask you which one holds the key that will allow you to begin manifesting prosperity: Is it your body or your reflection?

Apprentice: I, I don’t know.

Mad Monk:: The answer lies with the “you” in the reflection. Your body only asks for nutrients, exercise, rest, and fresh air to start the process of manifesting prosperity; yet your reflection on the other hand seems to need every possible whim and desire satisfied before it allows itself to even think about manifesting prosperity.Apprentice: If that’s correct I’ll never begin attracting the abundance I seek! I have thousands of desires. I’ll never be able to satisfy them all.

Mad Monk: Precisely, so stop trying. Look deeply into your reflection and state out loud, “I’d rather start my journey towards Manifesting Prosperity today with who I am right now without reason instead of waiting for some day when I somehow feel better or have fewer things to do.”

Apprentice: Okay, “I’d rather start my journey towards manifesting prosperity today with who I am right now without reason instead of waiting for someday when I somehow feel better or have fewer things to do.”

Mad Monk: Excellent, now take a slow deep breath, feel the words in your throat, and say it again with passion…

Mad Monk: Very good. Now when you continue to say this you’re actually altering your depressed mind from a hopeless slave of your everyday desires and feelings; to a truly positive thinking mind open to manifesting prosperity. Do you understand the simplicity of this transformation from a depressed mind to a positive thinking mind?

Apprentice: Yes, I feel better already.

Mad Monk:Good. Whenever you feel low, remember this quick exercise and repeat it out loud. The only thing you have to lose is your depressed mind, right?

Apprentice: Yes, I guess so.

Mad Monk: Good guess. And remember everyone wants to begin manifesting prosperity; however it is the start that stops most people so stay positive and always be mindful of your point of view.

After some time you will notice that everything you encounter and perceive as good or bad is filtered through your current point of view. If at any time your point of view is that the world is out to get you; everything will seem like just another onslaught you have to fend off.  If your point of view is that everything is a waste of time, then all of your results will be lame at best. On the other hand, if your point of view is a positive one every situation you encounter will turn into an opportunity to begin manifesting prosperity.

Devoting yourself to manifesting prosperity works like this: Let’s go with a social situation:  Imagine that you are attending a gathering. Across the room is a person whom you find attractive and would like to get to know better. If you let your depressed mind and perceived fears prevent you from interacting with that person you will close the door on not only on the current opportunity, but also for manifesting prosperity anywhere in the near future.  Manifesting prosperity is the result of consistent and direct positive interaction with the world around you.

Without directly taking action and devoting yourself to manifesting prosperity you will remain trapped in your depressed mind.  Don’t be mistaken by thinking that just because you are not depressed in the clinical sense means you are free from a depressed mind.  Depressed minds don’t equal depressed people overnight.  True devotion to manifesting prosperity happens when you take responsibly for your depressed mind by putting yourself in action.  Those who start manifesting prosperity do not hold themselves back.

People who begin manifesting prosperity are whose who grow comfortable with bringing themselves face to face with rejection and possible embarrassment with consistent and positive action in all situations.  One of the grandest realizations in life is when you fully grasp that your ability to begin manifesting prosperity is completely under your control.

Imagine how extraordinary it will be to have complete freedom from your depressed mind loaded with fears and anxiety.  Your social, financial and love life will flourish even though every physical aspect of your life is exactly the same as it has always been. The only change will be the invisible transformation from a limiting depressed mind to a liberated positive thinking mind geared for manifesting prosperity!

Yes, 2012 is here and the essential key to getting the most out of this awesome enlightening adventure will be in how conscious you truly are. The more unguarded, sensitive, truly present, and receptive you can be, the easier it will be to receive whatever your heart desires Make it your goal to allow your heart and mind to become fully unguarded this year. Be willing to let people in, allowing love to pour into you, through you, so that you can take your soul far beyond the ordinary experiences you’ve had before.

The moment you live in a deep receptivity, with your heart open to existence, you also become available to experiencing the divine all-intelligent God Source that is right here right now. From this deep spiritual connection you have the ability to receive anything you want in life. Yes, anything! Whatever your mind can believe is possible is possible. You can manifest anything when your vibration is high enough to not reject it. Manifesting without effort simply happens when you stop guarding and defending your ego, and start being a vessel of pure love. Instead of thinking how others hurt you, think about how you can help them. Who is it that needs guarding anyway? Your soul is made of pure conscious light. Why on earth would you need to protect that? Stop trying to assert your power over or under others, pretending to be something smaller or bigger than who you are. You are already the God Source itself, so trying to be any one thing just means you don’t realize the absolute vast being that you are. Simply give up this ego trip in 2012. That is all. This defensive guard at your gate can overlook the positive and negative commentary that others may unconsciously spew out. It really doesn’t matter what anyone says, what’s the most interesting thing of all is how YOU respond in 2012.

Through a 100% pure receptivity to life you’ll develop a laser-like focus for seeing the Divine in all people and the conversations you have with them. Others may spit out buckets of rubbish and all you hear are the awesome creative juices of life gurgling forth. Through full receptivity you stop resonating in judgment and fear. You begin to merge with the Divine and trust life completely. You realize your life purpose is to become aligned with the highest possible consciousness. This is the only way to know what is real. Otherwise this entire life is spent in following illusions. Use your heart to find your way through the mirage. Trust your body and its intuition. It is the MOST sacred vessel in this Universe. This body is The Divine and when you love it unconditionally, being sensitive to what its telling you, amazing manifestations can flow through it and into your life this year 2012.

Being able to manifest anything in your life means you’re aligned with one important understanding. That the Universe is deeply conscious, benevolent, and is always helping you create whatever is for your highest good. You may not always be certain what your “highest good” may be, and somedays you may think you know better than the Universe. You may believe your highest good comes in the form of a brand new shiny red sports car when in reality it may be the blue mini-van that breaks down every few weeks and forces you to pray. What you need and want in life are not always the same and will change until your vibration is soooo high that you stop placing your ego’s demands over life. When you are totally surrendered to each experience, when your being is 100% available to the stars, sun, moon and each person to deeply touch you, then you will see how easy it is to manifest anything in 2012.

To begin receiving anything and everything you want this year 2012, start with being crystal clear about what you are asking for. If you are wishy-washy in any way the Universe feels this, knowing you lack the understanding of the infinite divine soul you truly are, what you really want, and thus delays the manifestation. Divine Intelligence is always light years beyond what you can imagine it is. It knows you better than you know you. It wants you to be fully satisfied on the deepest levels. If God could form a desire, it’d be that you are soooooo ecstatic, over joyous, and orgasmically happy that you become a smiling laughing ball of bliss! The ironic thing is that this blissful state has nothing to do with manifesting physical results from your ego’s desires, and everything to do with how fully you can show up in this present moment and be receptive to the Now.

Bliss happens instantly when you intimately realize how to surrender and be receptive. You are the soul creator of your entire reality AND you are being fed desires from your karmic past. Nothing is actually yours. This body, this mind, these thoughts…everything is borrowed. When you wake up to this, you’ll be conscious enough to stop focusing your mind on what you don’t want and start living each moment in total appreciation of what is. Your life will feel like a rose petal who is continuously bathing in the glorious morning sunshine. Then you’ll know without a doubt just how amazing every moment of your life actually is in 2012.

I invite you to try something new this year 2012. Anytime you ask for something, anything, from God or anyone…instead of thinking that you don’t have that “thing” just yet, imagine and pretend that you do. Ask as if you already have it now. Ask for what you want by feeling as you already received it. It kind of feels like giving yourself a long warm cozy happy hug! Practice feeling this feeling all day long and you’ve set in motion the effortless manifestation process. The experience of receiving your every desire means you’ve realized that you are not separate from God and that you never were. The day you permanently retire those habitual thoughts which think you are “separate” from the Divine One Supreme Reality, then the real magical life you’re here to live takes over.

The day you’ve released all over-identification with ideas about your past and future, then pure joy can enter your heart and remain there forever. The only thing stopping you is the mind, and it can be very crazy. Trying to tame it can be like controlling a drunk monkey or 50 cats on acid. There is no need to try and control it. Just watch it, and see how it defines and creates your limitations, problems, solutions, and what your range of opportunities are in this moment. Identifying with past and future thoughts are whats creating a narrowed and shallow experience of life. It’s the empty mind that is full of “no-thought” that has room for the unlimited experience of reality. Once you trust God enough to let go of controlling this mind, then the most exquisite experience of reality can fall into you.

This highly intelligent Universe knows the grand master plan of your life. It knows every intricate piece of the karmic game your soul is playing. The mind has such a limited perspective on Reality. It tends to demand things show up, and push against time (the Universe) to manifest something for your ego’s gratification. Yet, when you are opening, surrendering, being willing to receive anything, you can see this bigger picture and feel grounded in this deeply benevolent Universe. From this place you see that each experience serves your highest souls evolution. Your mind may not always agree, it is allowed to have an opinion, yet just realize this is the nature of the argumentative mind. Find that inside you which has no argument for or against anything. Discover that which is truly at peace and all of the opportunities, people, and resources you desire will present themselves. All you need to do is relax, trust the process and ask with conviction, without any attachment, for what you truly desire. The Universe will support you in the most profound ways to Receive Everything You Want in 2012.

So what do you really really really want in your life right now in 2012? What you are really dreaming of? Check deep inside your heart, what is it saying? If you truly dive beneath the surface and see what your innermost being is after, you’ll find your real desire is there. It’s always the one that’s truly juicy and without fear. Just do not be afraid of desire. Desire is that fire that keeps the karmic wheel spinning. We need it to give us direction and purpose. Stop hiding your true desires behind the veil of fear and judgment. Pull away the cloak and find out whatever it is that you truly want in 2012 and beyond. Give yourself permission to honor your desires, know each one is very sacred, and trust that all your desires will manifest at the right time and place. This is one of the greatest gifts that you can give yourself on this amazing journey called life. Enjoy!
